Mortgage rates, the Fed and buyers of Charleston real estate

Mon, Aug 14th 2017 10:47 am by Georgia Bell 6 types of homebuyers

Charleston mortgage rates have been so low for such a long time that it would be surprising if area buyers didn’t begin to take them for granted. It’s only human nature. Addressing would-be home buyers who, though qualified, remain on the sidelines, government-sponsored Freddie Mac headlined the question, “If Housing Is So Affordable, Why Doesn’t It Feel That Way?”
The article appeared in Freddie Mac’s Insight publication which noted that right now housing isn’t just affordable—it’s “near record” affordable! HUD’s Housing Affordability Index has been rising for over 35 years, interrupted only briefly by the housing crisis of the mid-2000s. It hasn’t quite sustained the all-time affordabili...

Qualities of a top real estate agent. What you should be looking for when you sell your home

Mon, Aug 14th 2017 10:36 am by Georgia Bell Best real estate agents in Charleston

Five Qualities Distinguish the Best Charleston Real Estate Agent

If you are just about to commit to buying or selling a home in Charleston, the first important task before you comes with identifying the best Realtor® to assist your effort. That comes first because although you might begin by combing through the current Charleston listings or driving through the neighborhood to spot what’s going on, there is always a possibility that acting without delay will be important. If that happens to be the case, zeroing in on the best Charleston agent takes first priority.
How you ultimately select that best real estate agent for you involves a selection process that’s a lot like any business pers...

What you should know before buying a condominium

Fri, Aug 11th 2017 11:52 am by Georgia Bell Charleston

Condos were once thought of as homes that attracted singles or couples, often without children. But today, condos are growing in popularity and attracting families of all sizes.

Condos can be an excellent choice for the right buyers. Here are a few things that should considered before purchasing a condo. Most buyers start with the condo itself. That may be a good place to begin but, before they buy, buyers should also consider other factors outside of the condo.

Some developers are building condos that have a look and feel like single-family homes. These modern condos have great rooms and open, flowing floor plans that look and feel like a single-family home rather than an apartme...

Charleston Home Buyers

Fri, Aug 11th 2017 11:17 am by Georgia Bell 6 types of homebuyers

There are at least 6 types of Charleston House Hunters

Trying to categorize prospective buyers’ motivations and levels of seriousness is something that’s hard to resist. Many a successful seller will tell you how they originally mistook the ultimate buyer for an unreliable looky-loo (or vice-versa). Still, judging from the articles written on the subject, apparently it’s worthwhile recognizing the different sorts of house hunters and the categories that describe them. Category names vary, but here are six cited most frequently:
 1. Serious surveyor. The most common variety of house hunter, the serious surveyor has usually viewed the Charleston listings online, prepared a budget, and pos...

HOME PRICES ON THE RISE IN CHARLESTON, SC EATING OYSTERS IN THE LOWCOUNTRY!

Fri, Feb 6th 2015 3:02 pm by Charleston

Prices are up throughout Charleston County - most specifically in the Mt Pleasant and the Downtown areas.   Less days on the market, values continue to hold and rise in a solid and stable way

There are plenty of places to eat fresh local oysters in the Lowcountry... but if you like to cook at home, and you have some already shucked oyster, don't forget that not only can you enjoy them raw (yum - with cocktail sauce or melted butter - or just as they are!), steamed, fried and sauteed!

Try sauteeing them in butter - just briefly - not too long - on your stovetop and you will have a delicious treat!

AS RATES MOVE UP...

Fri, Feb 6th 2015 2:57 pm by Charleston

Mortgage rates have not budged, remaining at historic lows throughout the year amid economic growth that has generated 2.5 million net new jobs over the past 12 months   But uncertainty looms in  light of Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's announcement that the economic stimulus program known as "quantitative easing" will halt by year's end/  Moreover, an increase in the short term Fed funds rate is expected by the middle of 2015.  The course of US monetary policy, in short, will be less accommodating going forward.  Sooner or later rates will rise.

Another idea for making your home even more attractive to sell - Replace dated light fixtures!

Brass fixtures are passe'   Swap out dated models for a more modern look featuring oil-rubbed bronze or brushed nickel, for example.

Big-box and discount retailers offer plenty of affordable lighting options. To keep your costs down, just change the fixture and leave

Promising start to 2012!

Sun, Mar 25th 2012 1:30 pm by Georgia Bell General

2012 has had a very promising start.

Existing home sales improved in January from the previous month by 4.3 percent, pointing to improved sales in 2012 if the trend holds.

The latest pending sales level, at 97.0 is at its highest in the last five years, not counting the spikes caused by the home buyer tax credit in 2009 and 2010.

Conditions today ad over the next 6 months hold much more promise than they did at year's end.

No big changes are expected in buyer and seller traffic, though, which suggest a portion of the activity could be fueled by investors looking to buy existing foreclosures.

Still, with interest rates at continued historic levels, this is a great time to either b...
